Watford started their pre-season with a 26-19 friendly win at Woking on Saturday.

An excellent break from man-of-the-match Luke Diston saw him beat three opposition players before passing inside to Paul Dunlop, who showed good pace to score under the posts. This was the only time Watford troubled the scoreboard during the first half.

Woking came back into the game and some weak Watford tackling let the home side score two unanswered tries to take the lead.

The hosts scored again after a series of drives which gave them a 19-7 lead at the break.

Watford emerged a different team for the second half having identified their problems in the first period. The visitors soon clawed a score back after fine work saw Peter Nelson cross the line in the corner.

With 20 minutes to go, Watford levelled the scores. A break from winger Richard Yates was collected by prop Luke Bees. Finding himself with only the full-back to beat, Bees showed excellent footwork to score in the corner.

Watford finished the stronger of the two sides and the winning try came from Luke Hammill, playing out of position at 13.

A strong barrelling run took him over the whitewash as Watford secured the warm-up victory.
