The Hornets recorded their third victory of the season with an eye-catching 1-0 triumph over a Chelsea side managed by future Watford boss Gianluca Vialli and boasting the likes of Marcel Desailly, Didier Deschamps, another former Hornets boss in Gianfranco Zola as well as Chris Sutton.
Nordin Wooter was involved in the only goal of the game, scored by Allan Smart in front of a rapturous Rookery Stand.
