Oxhey Jets moved into the Challenge Trophy second round after a battling to a hard-fought 4-1 victory in a bad-tempered match against London Tigers on Tuesday.

There were plenty of fouls and strong challenges in the opening 15 minutes but Jets managed to come through it and went in front when Tim O’Mara’s deflected shot from distance found the net.

Two minutes later the Tigers were reduced to ten men after Tyler Connor was flattened by an elbow. It was undoubtedly the right decision.

Another red card for London Tigers followed as Sim Armstrong was brought down in the penalty area. A spot-kick was awarded and Eoin Casey’s effort was saved, only for him to convert the rebound.

Two of the Tigers staff were then dismissed as Jets went into the interval two goals in front.

The second period was a calmer affair. Lee Armitt was introduced after an injury-enforced absence and struck twice to put Jets comfortably in front.

Oxhey had the ball in the net on three more occasions but offside decisions ruled them out.

Tigers scored a long distance wonder goal as a consolation but the damage, largely self-inflicted, was already done.

In Premier Division on Saturday, Jets drew 1-1 with Tring Athletic.

A goal from Armstrong earned Wayne Gladdy’s side a share of the points.
