Fullerians rose to third in the league standings after a hard-earned 19-8 win over UCS Old Boys on Saturday.

Visitors UCS took the lead with a penalty but Fullers did not have to wait long to get on the scoreboard; Liam Boyd scoring his first try for the club after a lineout and Craig Duncan added the extras.

From another lineout, Fullerians added their second. Some good interplay from the forwards found centre Paul Gooding in space and he opened his account for the season before Duncan once more converted.

After the break, UCS turned the screw in the scrum and deservedly pulled a try back after manoeuvring into a good field position to reduce the arrears to six points.

Fullers eventually took the game out of sight when a lovely catch and drive from the lineout saw the ball shipped out wide where full-back Dan Evans was on hand to cross the line.

The hosts went in search of a bonus point but were unable to score again.

Speaking afterwards, head coach Rich Hoskins was pleased to see his side pick up the win, despite not being at their best.

He said: “We played very well for about 30 minutes but then went off the boil and allowed UCS back in the game.

“Our scrum was under pressure today but our interplay between forwards and backs was great at times.

“We didn’t play that well today but is pleasing that we are still winning.”
