Birkdale Trophies Challenge Cup Round One Second Leg

Cassiobury Revolution produced what could be the comeback of the season as they overturned a 3-1 first-leg deficit to beat Carpenders Park Rangers Reserves 5-1 yesterday and 6-4 on aggregate.

The tie looked to have been put out of Revolution's reach when they trailed 1-0 at half-time and 4-1 overall thanks to a scrambled Rangers goal from Harley Mead. But it was Max Earthrowl and Jamie Edmondson entering the fray at the break that turned the tide for the home side as their experience showed in the second 45 minutes.

Rob Dilkes equalised for Revolution early in the second half before Earthrowl further reduced the overall arrears with a clever chip.

With time running out and Carpenders Park hanging on for the aggregate victory, Chris Massey raced through to smash home and take the game into extra-time.

Cassiobury dominated the additional 30 minutes and were rewarded for their efforts when a corner was met by Edmondson and he made no mistake from close range to put his side ahead in the tie.

Earthrowl finished the scoring after breaking free to go through one-on-one with the keeper before coolly slotting home to complete a memorable fightback.

The other side to overcome a first-leg deficit were Hertfordshire Lions as they recovered from 4-2 down from the first game to win 3-0 yesterday and 5-4 on aggregate against Old Danes Athletic.

All three Lions goals came in the second half thanks to a brace from Mitchell Holt and one from Louis McNamara.

Bushey Grove beat Bedmond 4-3 and edged past them 8-7 overall.

Rob Ladmore scored twice, with the other goals coming from Paul Kenwright and Harrison Jones.

Kosta Karapetkov struck twice for Bedmond and George Dalling netted the other but it wasn’t sufficient.

Meriden Ballers eased past Roundbush 3-0 and 9-1 overall thanks to goals from Jason Gullin, Paul Coleburt and Ryan Hall.

Woodlands Laurels, who had lost the first leg against Prince George 11-0, were unable to field a team for the return leg, although they have told the league that they wish to forfeit the game. The matter will now be decided by the management committee.
