“If you are in the wall you stand there, even if you get arrows towards you.”

That was the verdict of Sami Hyypia after Rohan Ince left a gaping hole in Brighton’s defensive wall, allowing Daniel Tozser’s free-kick through it to give Watford the lead in this afternoon’s 1-1 draw at Vicarage Road.

“I didn’t even think it was a good free-kick,” the Brighton manager said. “When that type of free-kick goes in you can’t be very happy with that. Those are basic things. If you are in the wall you stand there, even if you get arrows towards you. That’s it.”

Turning to the game, which saw Lewis Dunk earn a point for the struggling visitors when he headed home a Kazenga LuaLua corner, Hyypia said: “I need to accept a point, even if I don’t want to. We played much better in the second half and we had the chances to win the game. It’s not good to concede that kind of goal, it goes through the wall and you are chasing the game.

“We showed reaction, we had the urgency in the second half to play well and play better than in the first half and create enough chances that we could have won the game.”

“It’s frustrating to concede that kind of goal but it’s as frustrating as well and with one point every game you’re not going to go higher in the table,” Hyypia continued later. “It would be easier to change something if we played badly, but now it’s only little adjustments we need to make. We need to be more clinical and maybe more determined in the final third when we have the chance to put the ball in the back of the net and then we’ll win games, for sure.”
