On this date in Watford FC history

An Alex Rae goal saw Millwall beat Watford 1-0 at Vicarage Road.
The match was the first competitive game in which the Hornets used three substitutes; Geoff Pitcher, Kevin Phillips and Darren Bazeley the men in question.
It also saw the home debut of recent signing Steve Palmer, who became the first university blue to appear for the club at Vicarage Road.
