Former Watford Ladies star Sarah Wiltshire returned to haunt her former employers on Saturday, scoring Yeovil Town’s equaliser in a 1-1 draw.

Kate Natkiel gave the Hornets the lead in the second minute of first-half injury time, but with 20 minutes remaining, Wiltshire levelled to ensure a point for the Glovers on her return.

Reflecting on the point, manager John Salomon was encouraged by the number of chances his side had created.

He told the club’s website: "We created more chances today than the whole season put together. Particularly in the second half we were fantastic going forward.

"We worked on that this week, we’ve looked at getting more players forward in supporting areas and it worked, now we’ve just got to work on finishing.

"So many good chances were created today and on another day there could have been a high margin between the two clubs."

The Hornets boss reserved praise for his wingers too: "The wide players were superb, the deliveries of the balls into the channels to them was good as well.

"I was really pleased, they just kept going and the thing that pleased me most was that they all did it together.

"It wasn’t just the wide players delivering the crosses, it was the whole team supporting by getting the ball to them, plus the movement of the front players into the box to go and attack the crosses."

Both sides began brightly and it was Watford’s Kim Farrow who had the first meaningful effort of the game when she forced Yeovil goalkeeper Rachel Simkin into a smart stop with a looping header.

Watford defender Ellie Butterwick then kept the score goalless when she blocked on the line from a Paige Stewart effort.

Hornets keeper Lauren Davey then had to tip Laura Bray’s attempt over for a corner, whilst Natkiel volleyed narrowly over at the other end for Watford.

With the half drawing to a close, Watford took the lead. Good work in midfield from Chloe Gunn released Natkiel and she fired into the back of the net via the crossbar to open the scoring.

The second half resumed with Watford pushing for a second; Farrow and Jo Wilson both going close shortly after the re-start.

Wilson then saw an effort rebound back off the crossbar as the Hornets tried in vain to find a killer second.

Natkiel and Wynne combined shortly after, with the latter firing over from a good position. Eventually, with 20 minutes remaining, Yeovil made Watford pay for their profligacy in front of goal.

A free-kick from Helen Bleazard picked out Wiltshire and the Welsh international headed beyond former team-mate Davey to draw the Glovers level.

Watford immediately went in search of a winner and very nearly found one; Josie Green firing just over from the edge of the penalty area, whilst Hollie Wride headed wide.

The Women’s Super League 2 season draws to a close on Sunday, October 26 with a trip to Reading FC Women.
