Berkhamsted remain top of the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division after extending their unbeaten streak to five matches with a 2-2 draw against Colney Heath on Saturday.

Mick Vipond’s side remain a point above second-placed Sun Postal with the added benefit of a game in hand.

Carl Tasker in the Berko goal had to be alert early on, pulling off a double save to deny Brett O’Connor, whilst visitors Colney also had a penalty appeal turned down.

However the lead was Berko’s when Jordon Frederick netted with a well-worked goal, but the away side levelled the score five minutes later.

Defender Steve Hawes brought down a man inside the penalty area and after Matt Standen’s initial effort was saved by Tasker, Rhys Lawrence was first to react and bundle home the rebound.

Josh Bronte had an effort disallowed for Heath after the restart, before former Leverstock Green forward David Parkinson put the visitors in front.

Berko were awarded a penalty of their own when Kyle Lincoln’s long free-kick forward reached James Baldry, who was clearly pushed to the floor by John McGrandles, who was given his marching orders for the foul.

Lincoln then smashed home the resulting spot-kick to draw Vipond’s side level.

Heath ended the game with nine players as Parkinson was dismissed, but the Comrades were unable to use their numerical advantage to force a winner in the dying minutes.
