Watford Town Cricket Club capped a successful season by picking up two trophies at the Herts Cricket League presentations at Allianz Park on Sunday.

Third-string captain Andy Canning collected the trophy for winning Division 11 West, whilst fourth XI skipper John Crosdil picked up the Division 12 West Trophy.

Watford’s top two teams finished third and seventh in their respective divisions, making them contenders for the club of the year trophy but they were beaten to the award by Shenley Village.

The other major winners, as inaugural champions of the Premiership following the breakaway from the Home Counties League, were Radlett.

And Radlett chairman Tony Johnson, who is also the league’s chairman, was able to announce the Saracens Herts League has been granted Premiership league status by the England and Wales Cricket Board.

Premier League status puts Hertfordshire on a par with the most powerful leagues around the country and could play a part in helping clubs to retain their talented young players.
