Watford announced 35-year-old Chelsea reserve-team manager Brendan Rodgers' appointment as the club's new manager, three weeks after the depature of Aidy Boothroyd.
A swathe of loan signings from the country's top clubs, a couple of successful permanent recruits the following January and the consequent plugging of Watford's leaky defence contributed to Rogers banishing the possibility of relegation and steering the Hornets to a mid-table finish.
