Richie Hanlon says talk of Kings Langley battling for the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division title is very premature and believes it may be a season early for the side to seal promotion to the Southern Football League or Isthmian League.

Kings are currently second in the table and are three points behind leaders Sun Sports. However, Hanlon and Paul Hughes’ side have three games in hand on the table toppers.

“The boys are playing really well at the moment,” Hanlon said. “We have been surprised at how well we have done.

“I think it just shows the quality that Sun and we have. We have come up and are able to challenge after being promoted last season.

“We haven’t said anything about promotion yet. It is still far too early for that and we are keeping our feet on the ground.”

If Kings were able to continue their fine start to the season and seal promotion they would enter step four in the national league system and that comes with a number of regulations.

Ground improvements would have to be made, players need contracts and wages must be paid.

“It is things like that which may mean it is a season or two too early for us to get promoted at the moment,” Hanlon explained.

“It might be too soon for the club to get everything sorted. However, make no mistake, if we are up there towards the end of the season we will give everything we can to get promoted.”

Kings maintained their impressive run of form on Tuesday night as they defeated Stotfold 4-1 in the Premier Division.

An own goal from Michael White put Langley in front before Mitchell Weiss struck a brace.

Marcus White pulled a goal back for Stotfold but Danny Hutchins fired home to complete the win.

On Saturday, Kings thrashed Oxhey Jets 5-0. Tom Carter broke the deadlock with a finish from close range and the lead was doubled through Dean Hitchcock’s free kick.

Nick Jackson notched Kings’ third in the second period and Jack Johnson glanced home a fourth. The win was rounded off with 15 minutes remaining when Weiss dribbled forward and drilled his effort into the net.
