Watford’s Tom McGee missed a kick with the final play of the game as his side’s impressive comeback against London French ended in a 25-23 defeat.

The Barnes-based French side raced to a 19-3 lead inside the opening quarter before Luke Bees smashed over after Watford had kicked to the corner and Mike Jenkins was held up.

But the fight back was to come later as a further two London French penalties increased their advantage to 25-8.

Simon Bram’s first try for Watford following several drives ensured the deficit was only 12 points at the break and the hosts went on to dominate the second period.

An interception score from winger Richard Yates and the extras, courtesy of McGee, meant the score was 25-23 heading into the final ten minutes.

Strong French defence limited Watford but McGee had the chance to win it with the final play of the game.

But his penalty from the right-hand side of the posts drifted agonisingly wide.
