Fullerians picked up their fifth consecutive league and cup victory by winning 15-6 at Datchworth– previously unbeaten at home this season.

In damp, overcast conditions, it was the home side who scored first to take a 3-0 lead. Datchworth soon extended their advantage with a second penalty after Drew Horne was sin-binned.

The visitors got on the scoresheet when Craig Duncan successfully kicked a penalty just before the break.

Playing down the slope in the second half, Fullers kicked for territory and were rewarded when a five-metre scrum saw the ball worked out to Duncan, who touched down before converting himself.

Despite Datchworth’s best efforts, the momentum was with Fullers, who continued to kick for territory with the aim of pinning their hosts in their 22.

Fullers were rewarded for this tactic when another five-metre scrum yielded a second try for the visitors, Chris Heley crossing the line to kill off the contest.

Coach Rich Hoskins commented: “It is a difficult place to come and beat Datchworth on their own turf as many teams have found that already this season. It wasn’t pretty but we used the conditions well and kept another clean sheet.”

Fullers have a week off before facing Belzise Park at home on Saturday, December 6.
