Kings Langley lost 6-5 to Saffron Walden Town in a pulsating tie in the second round of the FA Vase on Saturday.

In front of a crowd of 400, Kings began brightest and Nick Jackson hit the post after two minutes before opening the scoring 12 minutes later.

The lead lasted only 14 minutes though, as Ben Lawrence headed home the leveller before Craig Calver put Town ahead.

Louis Harper and Graeme Turner both bagged in quick succession to put Saffron Walden 4-1 up, only for reslient Kings to hit back through Mitchell Weiss and Jackson.

Kings’ Jack Pattison was then dismissed for handball, allowing Calver to score his second from the spot. Four minutes after that setback, Daryl Atkins powered home. And just two minutes later, Weiss grabbed his second to make it five apiece.

With Vase ties settled on the day, it took a 92nd-minute free-kick winner from Jamie Solkhon to finally kill off ten-man Kings.

On Tusday, Kings beat Berkamsted 3-1 to reach the Spartan South Midlands Challenge Trophy third round.

Sun Sports bounced back from the disappointment of being knocked out the FA Vase on Saturday to beat Holmer Green 4-2 on Tuesday.

The win means Paul Hobbs’ side are three points clear of Berkhamsted, but the Comrades do have the advantage of a game in hand on the league leaders.

James Armstrong, who now sits top of the Premier Division goal-scoring charts, got the first of three from close range following Craig Lynskey’s centre, before dinking a second past the Holmer Green goalkeeper.

The forward completed his hat-trick with a classic poacher’s finish after the Green keeper had failed to field Ashley Lewis’ cross cleanly.

Scott Bonner scored Sun’s other goal in between Armstrong’s treble – his fourth of the season.

It had been a different story on Saturday as Sun lost 1-0 to ten-man Stanway Rovers in the FA Vase second round.

Sun’s chances were boosted after half-an-hour when Stanway centre-back Josh Neale was dissmissed for violent conduct against goalkeeper Ross Hampton.

Ultimately, Sun were not aided by playing against ten men and the visitors grabbed the decisive goal shortly after, when Danny Slatter converted a penalty.

Stanway goalkeeper Daniel Beeseon was in inspired form, repelling a number of Sun chances as Hobbs’ side failed to find a way back into the tie.

Next up is a home fixture against London Colney on Saturday.

Oxhey Jets also exited the FA Vase at the second round stage on Saturday, going down 2-0 to Deeping Rangers.

A makeshift Jets side were under pressure throughout but never appeared to be in undue trouble.

Jets thought they had the lead when Tim O’Mara headed against the woodwork before the ball bounced away to safety. Deeping replied with two efforts which were well saved by Will Baker to keep it goalless at the break.

Nine minutes into the second period, Deeping took the lead when Tyler O’Connor headed a free-kick past his own goalkeer.

It was O’Connor who next went close for the visitors, crashing another header against the post.

Jets’ cause was not helped by the sending off of Anthony Shepherd, and in the 81st minute, the killer blow arrived.

With Wayne Gladdy’s side pushing forward to grab an equaliser it was Deeping who grabbed a goal on the counter attack to seal their progress.

Jets returned to Premier Division action on Tuesday but were held to a goalless draw against AFC Dunstable, extending their winless run in the league to four games.

Next up is a visit from Stotfold on Saturday.

Second-placed Berkhamsted kept up the heat on Sun Sports with a 3-0 win over Leverstock Green on Saturday.

Levy travel to Hoddedon Town tomorrow before hosting Ware in the Herts Senior Cup second round on Tuesday.

Tring Athletic will host Norwich United in the FA Vase third round after beating Ampthill Town 4-1 on Saturday.

Braces from Christopher Vardy and Kieron Turner sent Tring through with ease.

There was further cup success on Tuesday as Kings beat Bushey Sports Club 5-2 in the St Mary’s Cup quarter -final.

Vardy again netted twice, with Taylor Collins (2) and Ryan Sturges also on target.

Tring make the trip to Wembley on Saturday before visiting Stotfold on Tuesday.
