Slavisa Jokanovic lauded Almen Abdi’s performance in the Hornets’ 5-0 victory over Fulham but said Watford must not rely on individuals.

Abdi was back to his best at Craven Cottage. He opened the scoring with a low free kick before playing the key pass which led to Matej Vydra winning a penalty and Fulham goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli being dismissed.

Abdi then struck an audacious second half goal to complete his brace. The 28-year-old collected a pass from Vydra 25 yards out and curled an unstoppable strike into the top corner.

Jokanovic praised Abdi’s display, stating the midfielder played the perfect game. However, the Hornets head coach added it is important every player is ready to make an impact in the first team.

He said: “Abdi scored two goals and is a player who helps us gain control and keep possession of the ball. He is working very well and played a very good game.

“He is an important guy for us but I don’t always expect him to score two goals. I expect him to participate and fight like he did today. I expect he will be important for us in the next game.

“It is not just about Abdi though, I can’t think about just one player. However, tonight Abdi played the perfect game.”

Jokanovic added: “Abdi is an important player but it is not about one or two players. In some games he will not play, we can’t depend on single players.

“It doesn’t matter if Deeney or Abdi scores the goals or if Vydra puts in a good performance because it is about the team.

“I need a squad working together. I need 18 players with the right mentality and with the right level of concentration in games.

“I want everyone training well because if we do well in training that means you play a good game. This week we had shorter sessions with a little bit more intensity and finally we played a good game.”
