Kings Langley have applied for a place in the Southern Football League or Isthmian League but joint- manager Paul Hughes says his players must not be distracted by the possibility of promotion.

Hughes and Richie Hanlon’s side currently sit top of the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division. They have a four point gap and two games in hand over second placed Hertford Town.

Victories against Hillingdon Borough and Hoddesdon Town in the past week has extended Langley’s winning run in the division to 11 matches and Hughes understands his players’ growing confidence.

“They have been excellent and, of course, given our position in the table they are talking about winning the title,” he said.

"Nothing is won yet though and things can change very quickly in football. They have just got to keep the same attitude and desire that they have had this season.”

If Kings were to maintain their excellent form and clinch promotion they would enter step four in the national league system and that comes with a number of regulations.

As part of their application for promotion, Kings’ Gaywood Park ground has been assessed and improvements would have to be made. Players will also need contracts and wages must be paid.

That all costs and Hughes says the club will need to find ways of raising the money.

He explained: “We know what is required and there is a lot of work going on behind the scenes between the club committee, myself and Richie.

“It’s no secret that we don’t have a lot of money and you can’t go from being a small club to a big club overnight.

"We have done incredibly well but we will need to find that money if we are to go on to the next level."

Kings’ 4-1 win against Hillingdon on Saturday came thanks to goals from Tom Carter, Mitchell Weiss, Alex Campana and Nick Jackson.

The free-scoring side overcame Hoddesdon 3-1 on Tuesday night. Campana netted a first half brace and Daryl Atkins struck to secure the win.

Kings face Tring Athletic on Saturday before a match against Leverstock Green a week later. The Christmas period is notoriously difficult for any football club and it is no different at Kings.

"You can’t stop the lads going out over Christmas but we’ll be stalking their Twitter and Facebook pages," Hughes joked.

"If the lads do go out the night before a game then they must make sure it doesn’t affect their performance, we’ll certainly know if it does.

"But given their form I am sure they won’t want to harm that."

Oxhey Jets were beaten 1-0 on Tuesday at Colney Heath. Three days earlier Jets’ game at Holmer Green was postponed. Wayne Gladdy’s side host Hertford Town tomorrow.

Sun Sports saw their trip to London Tigers called off. Paul Hobbs’ men welcome Colney Heath tomorrow.

Tring Athletic made it three league wins from three on Saturday as they beat Ampthill town 2-1 at Cow Lane.

The home side took the lead when Taylor Collins escaped down the right-hand side and crossed for Ampthill defender Danny Butler to turn beyond his own goalkeeper.

Ampthill levelled the score after the break when Sheldon Washington took aim and fired beyond keeper Jack Hopwood.

However, Tring made sure of all three points when Kieron Turner showed no little resilience to register at the third attempt.

Tring were unable to build on Saturday's win when they exited the Challenge Trophy after a 3-0 defeat against St Margaretsbury on Tuesday.

Leverstock Green did not have a fixture scheduled on Saturday. They travel to St Margaretsbury on Saturday.

Berkhamsted saw Saturday's visit to Cockfosters postponed. A trip to AFC Dunstable awaits at the weekend.
