Slavisa Jokanovic has admitted he was “not especially happy” Chelsea were beaten by Tottenham Hotspur but says Watford's FA Cup trip to Stamford Bridge on Sunday is their "good chance".

Spurs stunned the Premier League leaders yesterday by coming from behind to win 5-3 and while Jokanovic does expect Jose Mourinho to make changes for the third round tie, the Hornets will have to be wary of a potential Blues backlash.

The Watford head coach spoke to the media at the club’s London Colney training ground this afternoon and, discussing yesterday’s events at White Hart Lane, he said: “You can have an opinion that Chelsea played a bad game but I don’t have this opinion because it was some situation which happened, especially at the end of the first 45 minutes when Tottenham scored two goals and this situation changed many things. Chelsea decided to play a little bit different structure to try and fix this result and try and solve the problem they had in the game.

“I am not especially happy because they lost this game. The last [previous] game they drew against Southampton, now they’ve lost this game, so the level of the attention of Chelsea is going to be very, very high and we’re probably not going to find a team who is relaxed. But we must put them under some kind of pressure and some kind of problems to be competitive and to think about something important.”

Although Watford go into the tie as outsiders, Jokanovic is acutely aware that it does present a major opportunity for his side. And even if the result does go against them, he wants his players to produce a strong performance for both themselves and the 6,000-strong army of Hornets fans who will be at Stamford Bridge.

He said: “It’s a good chance for us and I expect my team, my players to understand what is in front of us is a very important chance to compete against one of the best English, European or world teams and we are going to be focusing all the work [on this].

“If we make something important we can be news. If not, it’s going to be like a normal situation but it’s important, independent of the result, to put everything on the field and make our supporters proud.

“This is the FA Cup spirit, this is the most important cup in the world, the draw is probably a more difficult day for us with the quality of the team we must play against. But that’s it and we must be happy because in front of us is an important chance.”

Asked about the team Mourinho will select, Jokanovic responded: “I believe he’s going to make some changes. Normally he doesn’t make many but after the last game against Tottenham he’s probably going to make more changes than normal. But this is dependent on them, I can do nothing, he’s going to do what he thinks is better for his team.”

“It’s a good chance for us,” Jokanovic reiterated. “We’re not going to arrive at Stamford Bridge with the intention like this [to lose]. Our tickets are sold out, there’s going to be many, many Watford supporters and they’re not going there for nothing. We must do everything to make us and make them proud.

“If Chelsea win against us, I’m going to shake his hand and wish them all the best. But before this moment we must play and this is our good chance.”
