Watford boss Slavisa Jokanovic has stressed to Matej Vydra that he needs players who work hard for the team and said the striker will rediscover his goal-scoring form if he does so.

The Czech Republic international has not netted in his last 11 matches and lost his place in Watford’s starting XI to Odion Ighalo at the weekend.

Vydra played the final 15 minutes of Saturday’s 5-0 win against Charlton Athletic but didn’t come close to finding the net.

Ighalo started the contest and struck twice, he has scored four goals in his last three Championship games.

Jokanovic was asked after the Charlton victory if Ighalo has now replaced Vydra as the first-choice partner for Troy Deeney.

The Golden Boys head coach replied: “I have four very good strikers. If there is an area of my team that is strong then it is in the offensive line of my team.

“Everyone must work and Vydra played 15 minutes. I told him I need people who are working on the pitch. If you score a goal or not is less important.

“If you are just waiting to score, you will never score. If you are working with your team and help your team, then your team will help you score goals.

“I agree that Ighalo and Troy played a very good game but Fernando (Foresteri) and Vydra can play at a similar level. I need competition between my strikers.

“If we play with two strikers then I have four quality strikers available. If they are working I have enough guarantees to score goals and make us a better team, no matter which guy starts up front.”
