Two late goals for Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend condemned rock-bottom Blackpool to their 15th league loss of the season – leaving them nine points adrift of safety with 26 games played.

Defeat at Molineux also extended the club’s run of winless away matches to 15 (in all competitions); with their last victory coming in a 2-0 defeat of Wigan Athletic in May. The signs are not promising for Blackpool fans. Their current average of 0.65 points per game has them on course for a total of 30 points in May – the lowest in the Championship since Rotherham United recorded 29 in 2004/05.

Furthermore, their 19 goals this season (nine at home, ten away) is the lowest total in the league, and Blackpool have only managed more than one goal in a game twice so far; in a pair of 2-2 draws against Fulham and Charlton Athletic.

With all three of the club’s league wins coming at Bloomfield Road, Blackpool have been reliant on draws when playing away from home; with five of their 13 fixtures ending in a tie – the last of which coming against Charlton in December.

Pool have kept just one clean sheet in away games this season – drawing 0-0 against Brighton and Hove Albion at the AmEx in September.

When Watford travelled to Lancashire earlier in the season to claim a 1-0 victory courtesy of a Matěj Vydra penalty, The Tangerines were still being coached by José Riga; whose stormy relationship with club owner Karl Oyston was well-publicised throughout his tenure at the club.

However, following a 3-0 defeat to Reading in October, Riga was sacked by the controversial Oyston after only 15 games in charge.

The Belgian, who ended last season at Charlton, has since been succeeded by former Birmingham City boss Lee Clark, who has been unable to shift his club from the bottom of the table, despite a four game unbeaten streak in November and December.

In transfer news, midfielder Chris Eagles and defender Tom Kennedy have both left the club after their short-term deals expired in January without being renewed. The duo may also be joined by centre-back Nyron Nosworthy, whose deal runs out later this month.

Clark has looked to strengthen the squad in the January transfer window, bringing in six players; three on loan (Saer Sène, David Ferguson and Connor Oliver) and three on a permanent deal (Alex Henshall, Islam Feruz and Grant Hall).

Clark will be unable to call upon defender Hall, who sustained an ankle injury against Wolves. However, striker Ishmael Miller will be back in contention, after missing Blackpool’s last two games with a hamstring injury. Miller has two league goals from 21 appearances for The Seasiders this season.

Blackpool starting XI vs Wolverhampton Wanderers (17/1/15): Lewis; McMahon, Clarke, Hall, Dunne; Oliver, O’Hara, Perkins, Orlandi; Delfouneso, Davies.
