Steve Finn marked his 50th one-day international appearance with two wickets as Australia secured their place in the Tri-Series final by claiming a three-wicket win with one ball to spareagainst England in Hobart.

Fresh from taking a one-day career-best five for 33 against India on Tuesday, the Watford-born bowler had Shaun Marsh caught for 45 by Ian Bell and then trapped Cameron White leg before wicket for a duck two balls later to the leave the hosts 92 for three in pursuit of England’s 303 for eight.

By this stage though, Steve Smith was in the middle and the skipper – helped by Glenn Maxwell (37), James Faulkner (35) and Brad Haddin (42) – went on to make an unbeaten 102 to continue his exceptional form and guide his side home.

Earlier, a superb 141 from Bell helped England to an excellent position of 253 for three with more than eight overs of their innings remaining. However, Eoin Morgan’s men were unable to score heavily in the final overs and they fell 30 to 40 runs short of the total that had looked on the cards at one stage.

The former Parmiter’s School pupil finished with figures of two for 65 from his ten overs to take his haul of one-day wickets to 74.
