Watford striker Uche Ikpeazu has joined Doncaster Rovers on loan until the end of the season, with the League One side claiming it is with a view to a permanent switch.

The 19-year-old frontman was recalled from Crewe Alexandra by the Hornets yesterday, less than 24 hours after extending his loan stay, with the expectation he would move out on loan once more.

A Championship club had also been in talks with the Hornets over signing Ikpeazu but we understand the Golden Boys were keen for the forward to join a club challenging for promotion, with 11th-placed Doncaster only two points below the League One play-off places with two games in hand.

Watford have yet ton confirm the deal.

The former Reading youngster, who was the top scorer in the country at Under-18 before he joined Watford in July 2013 - spent time on loan at Gresty Road last season, scoring four times in ten league starts for the Railwaymen.

Harrow-born Ikpeazu has failed to make a senior appearance for the Golden Boys following his switch two summers ago.
