Steve Finn took his Tri-series haul to ten wickets by claiming an impressive three for 36 as England beat India to secure their place in the final against Australia on Sunday.

Having been put into bat at the Waca, India reached 83 without loss after an awkward start on an uneven pitch, before wickets from Chris Woakes (two for 47), Moeen Ali (two for 35) and Stuart Broad (two for 56) pegged them back to 134 for four.

That was quickly 136 for five when the Watford-born bowler had top-scoring Ajinkya Rahane caught behind for 73 and he then claimed the scalp of Stuart Binny (7) to an excellent slip catch from Ian Bell.

When the same combination accounted for Axar Patel (1) to give the former Parmiter’s School pupil his third wicket, three batsmen had fallen for one run to leave India staring down the barrel on 165 for nine.

However, some lusty hitting from number 11 Mohammed Shami, who made 25 off 18 balls, saw 35 added for the final wicket as India made it up to 200.

Any hopes England had of reaching the target in straightforward fashion were soon in disarray as Sharma (two for 36) and Binny (three for 33) had Eoin Morgan’s men in real trouble at 66 for five.

But James Taylor (82) and Jos Buttler (67) then turned the match around with a fine 125-run stand to get their side close to the finish line. Both perished before the end but Woakes (four not out) and Broad (three not out) secured the three-wicket success to see England into the final at the same venue in two days time.
