Slavisa Jokanovic said it would cost him a lot money if he was to give his true opinion on Lee Probert’s decision to send off Gabriele Angella after just 25 seconds of Watford’s 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth.

The Italian centre-back was dismissed in the opening minute for a foul on Callum Wilson. The striker was brought down whilst running at goal but Craig Cathcart was ready to cover and Wilson had already lost control of the ball.

Despite this, Probert showed Angella a red card and Watford played more than 90 minutes with ten men.

The Hornets battled throughout but goals in each half from Yann Kermorgant and Matt Ritchie ensured the Championship leaders clinched victory.

Jokanovic was somewhat restrained in his post-match press conference and when asked about the red card said: “It is better for me not to have an opinion. If you really wanted me to answer you it would cost me a lot of money and my contract isn’t that big.

“I can’t really make any comment about the situation but it was wrong and strange. It put us in trouble. It wasn’t good for us, our supporters and for all football supporters. That’s it, it is that simple. Don’t ask me anything more because then I might make a mistake.”

Jokanovic said Watford will probably appeal Angella's red card but didn’t believe there was any sense in speaking to Probert after the game.

He explained: “People often speak with the referee but I don’t understand why, it makes little sense. They make big mistakes and that is it.

“He won’t tell me sorry or explain his mistakes. So it doesn’t make any sense. I would rather go home and prepare for the next game.

“So what is the point? Football must be a spectacle and congratulations to Bournemouth, they played better than us today and deserved the three points. But after 25 seconds, to have a situation like that, it is a joke.”

Jokanovic revealed Watford have practiced playing with and against ten men in training but admitted: “I have never planned to play 94 minutes with ten men.”

The Hornets boss said he was proud of his players and added: “We played against a top Championship team who play very good football.

“The facility they found at the start of the game made it harder for us. We fought, worked all together and in the first half an hour we played a good game.

“After the penalty we decided to stay with two strikers a find a goal. In the second half we were tired and we found a more complicated situation for us. They scored a second and could have scored more by the end.”
