Hornets striker Odion Ighalo has surprisingly missed out on the Championship player of the month award for January with Middlesbrough’s Lee Tomlin receiving the honour.
The Nigerian striker struck seven times in four games last month and averaged a goal for every 37 minutes he was on the pitch.
However, Ighalo’s goal-scoring form wasn’t enough to convince the judges he merited the award.
Midfielder Tomlin netted three goals in four Championship games for Boro last month and also impressed as Aitor Karanka’s side knocked Premier League champions Manchester City out of the FA Cup following a 2-0 win at the Etihad Stadium.
Karanka was named the Championship manager of the month.
