Rotherham United boss Steve Evans has joked he will not confront Watford head coach Slavisa Jokanovic during tonight’s game as: “If big Slav coughs I am sitting down”.

The Millers take on the Hornets at Vicarage Road with both teams looking to bounce back from defeats at the weekend.

Rotherham were beaten 5-0 by Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday while the Golden Boys lost 3-0 at home to Norwich City.

The fortunes of Watford and Evans’ side this season are contrasting. The Hornets are attempting to win promotion to the Premier League and Rotherham are battling to stay in the division.

When the two sides met in August, the Golden Boys clinched a 2-0 victory under the stewardship of Beppe Sannino.

Since then Sannino has departed, as have his successors Oscar Garcia and Billy McKinlay. Jokanovic took charge Watford in October and is the club’s longest serving head coach by some distance this season.

Jokanovic is an imposing figure on the touchline, something Evans noted in his pre-match press conference.

“I said if big Slav coughs I am sitting down. He looked about 8 feet two inches when I watched them,” the Rotherham boss joked when speaking to BBC Sheffield.

“But they (Watford) are a team with wonderful players. We know how they will play and set up. Not in terms of personnel because they have different options.

“But if you look at the main three attacking players in (Odion) Ighalo, the boy Troy Deeney and (Matej) Vydra they are three classy footballers at this level. Dare I say all three will play above this level.

“They are then backed up with an industrious and quality midfield. So they have good players. They also have a Scottish international in wee (Ikechi) Anya who seemingly has more energy than anyone else in football.

“So it is going to be very tough. We think we can go there and get a result but at the same time we recognise how tough that will be.”

Evans said he had watched the Hornets defeat to Norwich and admitted the final score was harsh on Jokanovic’s side.

He explained: “A goal in added time makes that game look like a real hammering for Watford. But what I would say is in the first half it was very level and goals change games.

“The first goal is a penalty and if that is a penalty we may as well give the game up. And I am a neutral so I can say that.

“The second goal is a classy finish and from then on it is difficult for Watford because Norwich have top players anda  manager who has helped them win a lot of games since he came in.”
