Here is a football quiz question to stump your friends with. What do Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Harry Kane and Diego Costa have in common?

The answer is they have all scored fewer league goals in 2015 than Watford striker Odion Ighalo.

The 25-year-old's brace against Rotherham United on Tuesday night took his goal tally for the calendar year to 13 from just nine Championship matches.

He is now the second highest scorer in the division and is four goals behind leading marksman Daryl Murphy, who plays for promotion rivals Ipswich Town.

The Nigerian has averaged a goal every 77 minutes this year and no player in the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, the Bundesliga or the Championship, League One or League Two has bettered his total.

Ighalo’s record is even more impressive when you compare it to several of the leading players in Europe.

His tally dwarfs Ronaldo’s total of four La Liga goals in 2015 whilst Messi and Neymar have managed 11 and six respectively in Spain’s top flight.

Ibrahimovic has netted just four times in Ligue 1 since the turn of the year and Costa has the same total in the Premier League. Tottenham Hotspur’s Kane has struck nine times.
