Watford Sunday League round-uo

WSFL Challenge Cup Quarter-Finals

The two quarter-final ties played both followed the script, with Premier League Oakview and Division One Chorleywood Club progressing into the last four.

Top-flight Oakview were comprehensive winners over Division One’s Tudor Arms, advancing thanks to a resounding 5-1 win.

A hat-trick from Lewis Putman, along with further strikes from Lee Armitt and Ben Alexander completed the comfortable victory. Spencer Bellotti got Tudor’s consolation effort.

In the other clash, Division One outfit Chorleywood Club shook off their previous week’s disappointing result to beat Division Four’s Sun Postal Sports 7-3.

There was a treble for Michael East, whilst Charlie Munro (2), Paul Hibbert and Owen Warntaby also netted for Chorleywood.

Graeme Olney, Louis Hakner and Luke Peerless were the Sun marksmen.

Premier Division

In the only top-flight fixture played two sides languishing near the foot of the table, Rifle Volunteer and Gadeside Rangers, shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.

Tom Horton got the goal for Rifle, whilst Ryan Boyle ensured a share of the spoils for their opponents.

Division One

Hammer continued their winning streak and moved into second place after claiming a 4-0 victory at Old Fullerians.

Two goals from Chris Wells were added to by singles from Daniel Page and Lui Potiuk.

Top-of-the-table Reed Rangers slipped to their first draw of the campaign as they were held 2-2 by Rickmansworth Rovers.

Ashley Lewis and George Hobson were on target for Rangers, whilst Rovers have to thank their top scorer, James Budden, and Tom Gibson for keeping honours even.

Division Two

Second-placed Oxhey Lions kept up the pressure on the league leaders by completing the double over mid-table Colne Valley in a 3-0 win.

Strikes from James Henney, Ryan King and Liam Hanley sealed the points for Oxhey.

Despite drawing when they met earlier in the season, table-toppers Amici FC maintained their good form with a 4-2 away victory at mid-table West Herts Reserves.

Lawrence Olorunfemi and Ashley Bridewell scored for the home side but goals from Amici’s Chris Coleman, Craig Gorrie and a Bradley Thompson brace ensured the top side took all three points.

Division Three

AFC Oddfellows returned to winning ways following their previous week’s defeat by thumping mid-table side Dome Bar Area 11-1.

Flanagan led the way scoring six goals, moving him up to second place in the individual scoring charts. Gary Hennick (2), Dale Freeman and Michael Lambert completed the rout, with Angelo Napolitano snatching Dome’s consolation.

Third-placed Carpenders Park Rangers rallied in the second half, coming from 2-1 down at the interval to beat mid-table North Watford 4-2.

Despite their defeat, a goal from North Watford’s Shoab Ali was enough to keep him just ahead of Flanagan in the goalscoring charts, with Watford’s other goal coming via Mansoor Ali.

In another high-scoring contest, Oxhey Rangers ignored their previous week’s defeat and overcame visitors Sun Postal United 10-2.

Ashley Kerin, Scott McCrossan, Richard McCrossan, Jamie Phillips, Aaron Sakoor shared the goals around, but they were each outdone by a brace from Connor Murphy and a hat-trick from Liam Coles.

Goals from Sun’s Bradley Carter and Ali John were of little comfort to the visitors.

Division Four

Top-of-the-table Wellington Arms cruised to a comprehensive 6-1 win over Bell Rangers.

A treble from Simeon Armstrong was added to by further efforts from Ross Shorto (2) and Steve Shorto as Wellington ran riot. Marc Bonito provided some scant consolation for Rangers.

Bottom-of-the-table Garston United picked up their first victory of the season, winning 2-1 at Hertsmere (Sunday).

Their maiden three points were secured courtesy of efforts from Matthew Carpenter and Grant Basian.

Mitch Knight was on target for Hertsmere but it was not enough to deny their opponents a much-needed victory.

WSFL Invitation Cup Group A

Mid-table Rifle Volunteer Reserves of Division Two emphasised the difference between the leagues by trouncing Division Three’s Railway Arms 7-2.

Braces from Ben Campbell, Scott Brown and Nathaniel Howell sealed the win, with Ryan Cooper also getting in on the act.

Railway’s Jerome Driscoll was not to be outdone and also replied with a double for the visitors.
