Two Watford water polo stars have been called up to the junior Great Britain squad for next month’s European qualifiers in Malta.

James Warman and Hamish Hudson, who both play for the Watford Water Polo Club, will join 11 other GB players at the event.

The two players were selected for a provisional 16 man squad last month and have impressed enough to make the cut for the final line up.

Only last week they both showed their quality with Hudson scoring once and Warman bagging a double as Watford Seconds registered a convincing 18-7 win against Chelmsford.

The result sees Watford move ahead of Chelmsford into second in the Winter League Division Two.

Watford played their Under-19 squad in preparation for next month’s National Age Group Championship’s preliminary tournament but controlled proceedings from the outset.

Jack Pickford scored after just 46 seconds before four goals from Sam Carling and Pickford’s competed hat-trick added to three goals from Paul Botje.

Carling, who was a member of the provisional European qualifier squad but missed out, was particularly impressive.

Daniel Santosh and Andy Holt also got on the score sheet as the youngsters ran riot against a hapless Chelmsford.

Elsewhere, Watford players helped London North region finish their campaign in third place in the Inter-Regional Division One.

Carling, Jack Kovacs, Louis Walochek and goalkeeper Karan Basu all featured in a weekend in which four games were played.

The North region opened the weekend with a narrow 11-10 defeat against the South West region before recovering to cruise past North West Ravens by a score of 19-4 on Saturday.

Twenty-four hours later they enjoyed another comfortable win triumphing 13-4 against North East region with a dominant display.

The winning feeling did not last long however, as North came up against last year’s champions, and this year’s undefeated team, North West Tigers.

In a tight opening half North goalkeeper Basu saved a penalty to keep his side within touching distance of Tigers with the score at 6-4.

In the third period the two sides shared four goals evenly and North looked to have a chance of causing a major upset.

It wasn’t to be though as the Tigers greater power saw them pull away from North in the final period and secure a hard fought 10-6 victory.
