Three goals were not enough for Kings Langley Ladies, who were beaten 4-3 by Welwyn Garden City Ladies in the Beds and Herts Women's Division Three on Sunday.

Langley Ladies were up against it early on as the home side took the lead after eight minutes. With the rain pouring down, Rachael Lee teed up Nicole Barrett for an 18th-minute leveller before the hosts raced into a two-goal lead, scoring either side of another Barrett shot being cleared off the line.

Lee then set up Barrett again for another goal on the stroke of half time, keeping Langley in touch.

The second half saw Langley enjoy the lion's share of possession. Amber Harris saw her shot whistle wide after shooting on the turn but just before the hour mark, Welwyn scored against the run of play to restore their cushion.

Phoebe Henderson-Barnes was left aggrieved after her thunderbolt struck the underside of the crossbar and appeared to bounce down over the line but the goal was not given.

The last goal went to Langley, with Lee cutting in from the left and firing across the keeper.

Langley are next in action on Sunday, March 8 when they host Panshanger Ladies.
