They had to come from two goals down but Watford's assault on automatic promotion gathered further pace yesterday after they beat Leeds United 3-2 and moved to within three points of top spot after Derby County and Middlesbrough both lost.
The Hornets found themselves 2-0 down after 19 minutes to goals from Billy Sharp and Rodolph Austin, but Troy Deeney halved the deficit six minutes before the interval with a clinical finish.
Leeds' advantage was wiped out 11 minutes after the restart when Matej Vydra rounded off a fine passing move and it was the Czech Republic international who sealed the win with nine minutes remaining after again being set up by Deeney.
That goal was the Hornets' 69th of the season, making them the top scoring team in England's top four divisions.
