FORMER Lib-Dem leader Charles Kennedy has been made Rector of Glasgow University.
Mr Kennedy, MP for Ross, Cromarty and Skye, succeeds Israeli nuclear whistle-blower Mordechai Vanunu.
The rector is voted for by the students and serves for three years.
He represents not only the students but is also the chairman of the University Court, the body which administers the resources of the institution.
The ceremony took place yesterday in the university's Bute Hall and included speeches from Mr Kennedy, Chancellor Sir Kenneth Calman and president of the Student Representative Council, Mhairi Wilson.
