MICHAEL FRASER is expecting a fight for the No.1 jersey at Motherwell - even though he is the only keeper at the Fir Park club.

Fraser has joined Well, who have lost Graeme Smith, Gunnar Nielson and Artur Krysiak in the summer, from Inverness Caley Thistle for free.

But he reckons he will have to do well to secure a spot between the sticks for the Steelmen in the 2009/10 campaign.

He said: "I am sure the club will bring another goalie in, but my aim is to play as many games as I can, establish myself and be the No.1 for as many years as possible.

"It was disappointing that the manager, Mark McGhee, left for Aberdeen, but good luck to him. I am now in the same boat as everyone else. I am going to have to try and impress the new gaffer when he comes in."

Motherwell have interviewed former Sunderland boss Malcolm Crosby for the vacancy - with ex-Black Cats gaffer Rick Sbragia set to act as his No.2 if he gets the nod.

Former international bosses Lawrie Sanchez and Steve Staunton as well as ex-Stockport manager Jim Gannon are believed to be in the frame.

Chairman John Boyle, though, is keen for Stephen Craigan to be involved.
