A SCHOOLGIRL has been held for drug dealing after two pupils were caught taking ecstasy in the playground, police claim.

The 15-year-old was allegedly caught supplying the drug at Balfron High, Stirlingshire, and was detained by police.

Two girls, aged 13 and 15, were taken to hospital after teaching staff called an ambulance.

It's understood worried pupils alerted staff about 3pm on Monday.

Around 970 youngsters attend the school. Parents arriving to pick up their children were greeted by police and paramedics.

One parent said: "There was a great deal of fear among the kids. They were worried their friends were going to die."

Another parent said: "One of the girls involved was only 13. It's terrifying to think drugs are being offered to a child of that age."

A Central Scotland Police spokeswoman said: "We can confirm a 15-year-old girl has been reported in connection with supplying drugs at Balfron High. A 15-year-old girl and a 13-year-old were taken to Stirling Royal Infirmary and released after treatment."

Headteacher Val Corry said today: "I can reassure parents that in any incident where there are concerns for a young person's health or safety, the matter is dealt with swiftly and taken very seriously.

"First and foremost, our responsibility is for the wellbeing of all young people in our school."
