EDUCATION Secretary Fiona Hyslop's plan to scrap the Schools of Ambition scheme must not damage schools.

Several in Glasgow and many more throughout the country have benefited from the additional cash they were awarded through the project.

And they didn't get it for nothing - it had to be earned through improved attainment, discipline and attendance.

Ms Hyslop believes the system is flawed because it targets comparatively few schools.

But since the cash has helped them improve it must have some merit.

The withdrawal of this incentive is likely to affect the most deserving pupils. Council must get on right route

GLASGOW City Council must make more effort to prove it's controlling bus operators causing congestion.

It's not acceptable that it's relying on figures from a three month period last summer as an indication that offences continue to drop.

When it decided to reject the SPT's offer to ensure bus operators were observing the rules it also took on the responsibility to ensure they were observed.

Since rogue bus drivers cause jams every day by breaching the rules it seems the council hasn't been very successful. It's time it got on the right route.
