A GLASGOW-based housebuilder has created new homes for birds as part of major housing improvements across the city.

Lovell has joined forces with Concern for Swifts Scotland to provide nesting boxes for swifts at some properties it is refurbishing in the city.

Glasgow Housing Association is repairing broken tiles, roof spaces, holes in the eaves of a building and broken pointing, all typical nesting areas for the birds.

Currently, Lovell has more than 20 swift nesting boxes at properties in Shettleston, Carntyne, Ruchazie, Dennistoun and Craigpark.

Most recently they installed boxes at several properties in Fernan Street and Pettigrew Street for Shettleston Local Housing Organisation.

Lovell senior site manager Bryan Worth said: "We take care to make the nesting boxes so that they fit in with the look of each house."

The entrance to each box have to be the correct size for the swifts to enter and leave and to keep out other species.

Clare Darlaston of CFSS said: "The Lovell team have been brilliant.

"Their ability to understand what is required and to build at these nest sites puts them at the forefront of swift conservation."
