SUNNY weather in Glasgow caused a commuter headache last night when a train track circuit overheated.
The technology failed just outside Glasgow Central Station at about 3pm, causing delays and cancellations of all trains using platforms one to six.
Services to East Kilbride, Newton, Kilmarnock and Barrhead, as well as the West Coast Main Line were all affected, resulting in a major build-up of passengers in the station.
One delayed commuter described the station as "mobbed". And although services were restored after 4.15pm, First ScotRail admitted it caused knock-on delays at peak travel time.
Services to Ayrshire, Inverclyde and Paisley were not affected.
Network Rail, who is responsible for the tracks, said the circuit is a common piece of technology and was quite quickly replaced.
A spokesman added: "It overheated in the sun. It doesn't happen often in Scotland."
