SOMEONE once said it ain't over until the fat lady sings - but she'll need to hit several bum notes to stop Pollok winning the Super Premier championship tonight.

The Glasgow cracks will pip big-spending rivals Irvine Meadow if they avoid a 5-0 Newlandsfield drubbing by Glenafton.

And the reality is that Rab Sneddon and his players are too professional and too competitive to allow anything like that to happen.

Indeed, the Lok will be going all out to finish on a high note in their gaffer's final league match in charge and ensure they become the first West Region team to take the title for a second successive season.

No doubts the Gordon Dalziel-steered Glens and his highly-rated striking trio of Craig Feroz, Stephen Whalen and David Gormley will want to be high-scoring party poopers.

But the bottom line is Pollok's greater motivation should give them an added edge. Cautious to a fault, though, boss Sneddon is taking nothing for granted.

"Getting over the final hurdle is often the most difficult leap of all," he warned. "There is absolutely no pressure on Glenafton and I fully expect their players to come here and have a go.

"However, playing to the levels we know we can, I have every faith in my players getting the job done."

Sneddon is hoping skipper Stevie Aitchison will shake off an ankle ligament injury to lead his team out after missing out Monday's 2-1 victory over Neilston.

And top scoring marksman Bryan Dingwall is available for selection despite picking up a yellow card at Brig O'Lea which takes him over the 18 disciplinary points threshold and incurs a two-match suspension.

However, looking definite non-starters are the injured trio Joe Carruth, Brian Mackay and Richie Newall, while the leg knock that forced David McGeown's substitution against Neilston has the midfielder rated a 50-50 hope at best.

His replacement Raymond Logan's scoring contribution coming off the bench may earn him starting spurs and pacy striker Alan Waddell could figure from the off .

The only other league match with anything at stake goes ahead at Glenhead Park, where Clydebank look to finally dispel lingering fears of relegation when hosting the visit of Super First bottom markers Johnstone Burgh .

The Bankies are odds on to make it five wins on the spin and take all three points from a Burgh side edging ever closer to the ignominious fate of going through their entire league campaign without a victory.

Home team gaffer Budgie McGhie's selection hand is strengthened by the likely return from injury of James Lennox, Alan Jack and Paul Craig, however Barry Docherty is rated extremely dountful with a calf strain.

A confident Budgie said: "Mathematically, we are still not out of danger but I would expect that notion to be put to bed once and for all tonight.

"We have played well recently and in many respects I wish the season was just starting."

Elsewhere, a hat-trick of Whyte & Mackay Cup quarter-final contests look a good bet to whet Junior fans' appetites .

Lesmahagow face a tough test at home to high-flying Girvan while another Ayrshire District outfit Dalry Thistle will be out to take a third Super League scalp when hosting the visit of near neighbours and last season's beaten finalists Kilbirnie Ladeside.

And Beith, without a game in the past month, will rely on prolific strikers Kenny McLean and Andy Reid to overcome ring-rustiness at home to a Rutherglen Glencairn side boosted by the return of combative pair John Paul Craig and Lee McShane. FIXTURES
