POLICE were today stepping up their efforts to identify the woman found dead in a Glasgow park.

The naked body was found near bushes in the middle of Queen's Park, as revealed in yesterday's Evening Times.

It's believed the woman may have been raped before being killed.

The grim discovery was made by a ranger yesterday morning and police are trying to piece together her final movements.

The woman, thought to be in her 20s, is believed to have been killed between Wednesday night and early yesterday morning.

Police have refused to comment on speculation she may have been a prostitute.

A post mortem is being held to establish the cause of death, while inquiries continue to identify her.

Detective Chief Inspector Derek Robertson, who is leading the investigation, said today: "Our inquiries are at a very early stage, and until the post mortem, we cannot speculate on the cause of death. However, the death is being treated as suspicious.

"Queen's Park is a popular park which is generally busy, especially with people walking their dogs or passing through.

"I would also ask anyone who has been in the park around the time to come forward as they may have seen or heard something that may be of importance."

A police incident caravan has been set up at Queen's Park gates near Victoria Road.

Anyone who has information which could assist the inquiry should contact the incident room on 0141 532 4939.
