A week in the life of the Clyde One DJ

If there's something I regret not doing at school it's not learning the guitar and having a few jam sessions with my other friends who played guitar and drums.

School bands who formed a decade ago are starting to break through and make it big, and one band that is very hot at the moment is LA's Rooney.

Robert and Ned from the band joined me at Clyde 1 HQ to tell me about themselves - firstly the name.

"We named the band after a character from a movie - we'd never heard of the footballer Wayne Rooney.

"Every time we play in England, everyone chants Roooneyyy, Roooneyyy', Robert explains.

That'll be handy when they get round to their stadium tour and play Old Trafford!

The guys kicked off their UK tour at the beginning of the month here in Glasgow at King Tut's, where they have played before, and Ned from the band shared an interesting story with me.

He said: "I left the club late at night after a great show - we had a blast.

"So I was walking down the street looking for some chips as you guys refer to them "Anyway to cut a long story short, I got lost, I had a couple of drinks, I asked for directions, and a nice little drunk man started walking me home - then punched me in the face!

"When he walloped me and I ran back to the bus, out of breath and I was telling the guys, you'll never guess what happened to me and they were all like Yeah you got hit in the face'."

Ned can think of just one explanation of why he was attacked.

He said: "We have only one theory.

"My name is Ned - I was named after my Grandpa.

"And apparently that is slang for something in Glasgow - so we think maybe when I said my name is Ned he thought I called him a Ned!"

We came to the conclusion that Ned should change his name next time he is in Glasgow to avoid any problems.

Rooney have had more successful and safer tours - they travelled around the US with The Strokes, and Robert told me: "It was awesome.

"We didn't have a record out at the time, we had one on the way it was in October 2002.

"It was when The Strokes first record was out and it was very exciting for us. They were at their peak and we got to watch that show every night."

Luckily Rooney do have an album out right now - Calling the World - and a single, When Did Your Heart Go Missing?, which is most definitely worth a listen!
