SCOTLAND boss George Burley is facing a mounting injury nightmare ahead of his side's World Cup qualification double header with Holland and Iceland on March 28 and April 1.

Burley could be without up to six strikers for the crunch double header, with Aberdeen's Lee Miller and Wolves' Chris Iwelumo, who has an ankle knock, now doubtful. This comes just after Derby County's Kris Commons was crocked.

Scotland talisman James McFadden and Birmingham team-mate Gary O'Connor are almost certainly out, while Celtic star Shaun Maloney is toiling with a hamstring injury.

The Scotland boss has vowed not to panic. Burley said: "We'll keep making checks, both those who are playing and those who are rated doubtful. We still have two or three weeks.

"But Kris Commons has missed a couple of games for Derby and they feel he could be out for another couple of weeks. That is a pity because he was in excellent form.

"It is the same with the others being mentioned. Maloney has only played once for Celtic since December because of hamstring problems, while Barry Robson is a doubt as well."

Burley added: "I don't think a World Cup double header is the place for experiments."

However, Burley has been boosted by the news that Spurs defender Alan Hutton has returned to training after a foot injury.

Elsewhere, SFA chief executive Gordon Smith has fired a broadside at the growing political lobby over the creation of a Team GB for the London Olympics.

He said: "If the MSPS write to FIFA, they will get a view that they have no issue with a one-off Team GB for the London Olympics. As we have made clear, it is not the view of the FIFA members that matters, it is the views of members in the future that will count."
