A SPECIAL exhibition in Glasgow city centre today launched the start of a £306,000 roadshow calling on the public to pick up the phone and help rid the streets of drug dealers.

The Drug Dealers Don't Care InfoTruck, a police and Scottish Executive initiative, was unveiled in St Enoch Square. It has been funded by court seizures from the proceeds of drug-related crime.

Two previous six-week campaigns, in 2005 and 2006, led directly to more than 5000 drug-related calls - an increase of 452% - 530 arrests and the seizure of more than £1.6million of cash and drugs.

All the money will be reinvested in communities to improve the lives of those most affected by drug dealing.

The latest campaign urges the public to get more drug dealers off the streets by anonymously calling Crimestoppers.

Advertisements and leaflets will be handed out and the truck will tomorrow visit Clyde Shopping Centre, Clydebank, and on Saturday will be at Somerfield supermarket in Hamilton Street, Saltcoats.

The latest phase of the campaign costs £126,000 for advertising and £180,000 for additional police costs.

Detective Superintendent Gillian Wood, national drugs co-ordinator of the Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency, said: "The campaign helps people reclaim their communities from the threat and harm from drug dealers and drug-related crime.

"I would encourage anyone who has information on drug dealing to call Crimestoppers.

"This will help police get more dealers off the streets and prevent more lives being devastated by drugs".

The Crimestoppers number is 0800 555 111.
