Radlett batsman David Robinson has been selected to play for England during the over-60 series against Australia this summer.

Robinson’s heavy scoring for Hertfordshire’s veterans in 2014 persuaded the selectors to give him his England debut after he turns 60 in time for the match against the touring Australians at Halstead on June 21.

His captain will be Ray Swann, father of the former Test star Graeme.

Robinson, of Hillside Road, has remained a heavy run-scorer in his 30 years at Cobden Hill, dropping down to the third team in recent seasons.

Last year in county veteran cricket he hit 589 runs at an eye-popping average of 73.63, including two centuries in the county championship. His runs helped Hertfordshire to the runners-up placing behind Yorkshire.

Radlett’s first team, captained by the former Hampshire batsman Jono McLean, have the task of defending their Saracens Herts Premier League and T20 titles after a remarkable 2014 season featuring 21 wins, three losses and no draws in weekend cricket.

Radlett start the season as the only club with a second team in the Herts League’s new Division 2A, an all-first team league that includes old rivals St Albans and Watford Town, both former Herts champions.

Meanwhile Chad Barrett, a coach and former MCC Young Cricketer fast bowler, has left to pursue professional county cricket.

His departure offers a good chance for ambitious seam-bowlers to try their luck at Radlett.

Any player wanting to join or to have a nets trial is invited to contact cricket committee representative Charlie Randall on 07770 382127 or log on to the club’s website at www.radlettcc.com.
