Ritchie Hanlon believes the leap into the Southern League will be the biggest Kings Langley have faced and fears they could struggle to attract new recruits.

Kings reached 100 points on Tuesday by drawing 2-2 at London Colney after crushing St Margaretsbury 5-0 on Saturday as they collected the Premier Division title.

But Hanlon and joint-boss Paul Hughes have already begun plotting their assault on Southern League Division One after their second promotion in as many seasons.

“No disrespect to this league but that is proper football,” stated Hanlon. “It is the biggest jump up we have made. We have been to games in the league above to try to suss it out early.

“We have seen different formations, styles of play and tactics so we can work out the best tactical plan for next season.

“It is quite physical – though there are a few teams who get it down and play – but on the whole they are fitter and stronger than we are.

“We noticed that the other week when we watched a game where the better team lost because they were punished for a couple of mistakes.

“It is the same at every level. If Watford go up this season they will have deserved to but if they make a mistake there’s a Wayne Rooney there to capitalise on it.”

Promotion invariably means strengthening and although continuity has been a big part of Kings’ recent success, Hanlon knows they will need to add more know-how to their youthful group.

“With the players we want, it depends on if they want to come,” admitted Hanlon. “Can we make it worth their while? Can we get the best out of the current squad?

“Can we sell Kings Langley to these players? I don’t know if we are big enough, which is why we are working on our style of play.”

Kings Langley complete their league campaign at home to Oxhey Jets tomorrow (Saturday).

Sun Sports will look to secure fourth place tomorrow when they host Biggleswade United in their final game of the season.

Paul Hobbs’ side fell to a 3-0 home defeat at the hands of AFC Dunstable – themselves third – on Saturday, ending their chances of a top-three finish.

Sun can still be caught by the two sides directly beneath them – Wembley and Berkhamsted – both of whom have games in hand.

Oxhey Jets blew a 2-1 lead to lose 3-2 against Tring Athletic on Saturday, with the visitors snatching the winner in the fourth minute of injury time.

Both sides were short on numbers, naming just two substitutes apiece. But the entertainment factor was not quelled by the lack of players and visitors Tring took a 21st-minute lead.

Kieron Turner opened the scoring for Julian Robinson’s side, curling a stunning free-kick beyond stand-in Jets goalkeeper Ricardo Dinis to break the deadlock.

And the away side continued to take the game to their hosts without building on their lead.

Tring’s profligacy ultimately proved their downfall and six minutes before the break Lee Armitt checked inside his marker and fired into the far corner to draw Wayne Gladdy’s men level.

The two sides continued to trade chances after the break but it was not until the 67th minute Jets nudged back in front.

A throw-on from Athletic fell at the feet of Lee Stobbs but he could not control the ball and possession was surrendered cheaply, allowing Armitt to sprint away and shoot beyond Jack Hopwood.

The lead was short-lived though, as 11 minutes later Taylor Collins dragged the visitors level by finishing from close range after Dinis had kept out Chris Vardy’s initial effort on goal.

Oxhey’s injury woes continued to mount as the match wore on and with five minutes of injury time added on, it was Tring who profited from their hosts’ misfortune.

Ryan Sturges found himself in oceans of space in the penalty area and took the time to pick his spot before firing into the roof of the net from the edge of the 18-yard box.

Tring host St Margaretsbury tomorrow before travelling to Holmer Green on Tuesday in their final league fixture.

Berkhamsted reached the 100-goal milestone on Saturday in their 2-2 draw at Stotfold, despite being without 36-goal top-scorer BJ Christie.

Shorn of the threat of the suspended Christie, boss Mick Vipond made the inspired decision to bring in Reserves top-scorer Jay Caines. And he repaid his boss’ faith by making one and scoring the other.

Having fallen behind in the first half, the Comrades rallied after the break and Caines fired home the equaliser before squaring for Josh Chamberlain to reach a ton.

Berko travel to Harefield United tomorrow before making the trip to Cockfosters on Tuesday.

Leverstock Green have announced first-team coach Paul Faulkner will succeed current boss Dene Gardner, who has relinquished his post due to health problems, from next season.

On Tuesday Leverstock were picked apart by Conference South side Hemel Hempstead Town in the St Mary’s Cup semi-final, exiting following a 9-0 hiding.

Saturday had seen Levy beaten 3-0 at Colney Heath in Premier Division action.

Their final fixture of the campaign is at home to London Tigers tomorrow.
