Slavisa Jokanovic has confirmed Lloyd Doyley will miss the Hornets' final game of the season as the defender requires neck surgery.

Doyley has not played since Boxing Day as Hornets boss Jokanovic has opted for other players.

There has been a clamour from a section of supporters for the 32-year-old to have a run-out in the final game of the season Saturday, as the Golden Boys chase the Championship title against Sheffield Wednesday.

However, we understand Doyley has sustained what a source described as a 'medium-term' injury which requires neck surgery.

And when asked about who would be fit to face the Owls today, Jokanovic said: “Doyley has a neck problem from last week and will not be in the squad for the last game. I want to speak about him because he is a Watford legend. It is important injury news.

“The other injuries for the match are Sean Murray (knee) and Joel Ekstrand (knee). But is nothing new.”

Doyley’s contract is up in the summer and we understand the Hornets are in talks with the Jamaica international over his future at the club.

Doyley is a Watford legend. He came through the academy system and his 443 appearances over the last 14 years sees him occupy the fifth spot in the club’s all-time appearance makers.

He has scored two goals; the first of which was a memorable header against Queens Park Rangers in December 2009 and the other was a mis-hit cross at Bolton Wanderers in September 2012.

Doyley has only made eight appearances this season though, with the last coming on Boxing Day. He was last on the bench against Derby County earlier this month.
