Watford goalkeeper Jonathan Bond has been included in the final 23 of Gareth Southgate’s England Under-21 squad for the European Championships in the Czech Republic later the month.

Bond, 22, has won four caps previously for the Under-21s with two coming in qualifiers and two at the Toulon Tournament last summer.

However, the Hemel Hempstead-born gloveman will now join Watford-born Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tom Carroll and former Hornets loanee Nathaniel Chalobah in the squad.

Fulham striker Cauley Woodrow, who was also born in Hemel, has been culled from the initial squad of 27 named last month.

England will look to improve on their underwhelming showing at the 2013 Championships where they finished bottom of their group and pointless following three defeats.

Bond, who previously represented Wales at youth level before switching allegiances, will play second fiddle to Under-21s captain and Stoke City gloveman Jack Butland.

The Young Lions begin their tournament against Portugal on June 18 before facing Sweden three days later and Italy on June 24.

Preparation for the Championships continues at St George’s Park for another two weeks before Southgate’s side face Belarus at Oakwell, home of Barnsley, on June 11. They will fly out to the Czech Republic on June 14.
