Watford wing-back Juan Carlos Paredes has been included in Ecuador’s final 23-man squad for the Copa America, which begins next week.

The 27-year-old was originally named in coach Gustavo Quinteros’ 30-strong preliminary squad last month and will now be part of the side who travel to Chile for the tournament, which is held every four years.

Paredes is joined by two other English-based players in West Ham United striker Enner Valencia and Swansea City forward Jefferson Montero.

Since making his debut for La Tri in 2010, Paredes has won 44 caps for the South American nation, who have themselves never lifted the Copa America in 24 appearances. Their best performance was finishing fourth in 1993 and 1959.

This year’s edition of the tournament – the 44th since its inception in 1916 – pits Ecuador against hosts Chile, Mexico and Bolivia in Group A. There are three groups, with the top two from each and the two best third-placed teams progressing to the quarter-finals.

Paredes will hope to be involved when Ecuador face Chile in the tournament’s opening match on Thursday, June 11. Four days later Ecuador face Bolivia before their final group stage fixture with Mexico on June 19.
