South Oxhey Amateur Boxing Club picked up a gold and two silver medals at the Haringey Box Cup over the weekend.

And one of the club’s volunteer coaches, Darren Forshaw, says the achievement is made all the more special by the fact South Oxhey are not a powerhouse in the amateur boxing world.

Reece Bellotti, who recently won on his professional debut, is the club’s last export and he was in attendance to commentate on the event – which attracted 500 fighters – for London Live and to witness cousin Chris in action.

Chris Bellotti continued the family’s recent run of success by taking gold in the senior Under-60kg category, whilst there were silver medals for Callum O’Byrne in the Under-52kg and Thomas Forshaw in the Under-60kg.

“For quite a small club we are going well,” said Darren Forshaw. “We are not a Repton or a Finchley, who put ten lads out. So for a smallish club to have three lads into the finals was amazing. None of us get paid so it is good to see some of the lads get something out of it.”

He added: “We have had winners before but that is the first time we have had three go into the finals.

“Some of the lads they fought have been in the ABA finals so you are fighting the best guys in the country and the best in Europe come over too.”
