Watford legend Lloyd Doyley may be out of contract this summer but the defender will remain with the Hornets until at least September as he continues his rehabilitation from a neck injury.

The 32-year-old underwent successful surgery on his neck in May to correct what a source described as a “medium-term” injury.

Doyley has been working with Watford’s medical team during his recovery and will remain with the Golden Boys to continue his rehabilitation.

The Jamaica international is undertaking pre-season training with the rest of the Hornets squad and once Doyley is fully fit, Watford will meet with him to discuss his future at the club.

Doyley came through the club’s Academy and has made 443 appearances over the last 14 years. He is fifth in the club’s all-time appearance makers.

He has struck just two goals during his Watford career. The first of which was a memorable header which came against Queens Park Rangers in December 2009. The other was a mishit cross at Bolton Wanderers in September 2012.

While Doyley has been a regular starter during the majority of his time with Watford, he has struggled to break into the Hornets first-team this season.

He made only eight appearances during the current campaign, with the last coming on Boxing Day in the Golden Boys’ dour 1-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
