In the past fortnight Diego Perotti, Davide Santon and Zdravko Kuzmanovic have all turned down moves to Watford. Hornets head coach Quique Sanchez Flores understands their hesitancy but insists transfer targets would feel differently if they visited the club.

So far this summer the Golden Boys have completed two signings. Defender Sebastian Prodl has arrived on a free transfer after leaving Werder Bremen while goalkeeper Giedrius Arlauskis joined from Steaua Bucuresti. Matej Vydra is also expected to sign permanently in the coming days.

Watford have been looking overseas, and specifically Serie A, as they attempt to bolster their squad ahead of their Premier league campaign.

Italian side Genoa accepted a club record £7million bid from Watford for Argentine winger Perotti earlier this month but the player is believed to have turned the Golden Boys down in hope of a move to Napoli.

Santon meanwhile has stated on social media he has no intention of leaving Inter Milan while Kuzmanovic elected to join Basel yesterday.

Flores appreciates it will not be easy for Watford to always land their targets due to the club competing against top European sides in the hunt for players.

However, he believes the Golden Boys have a lot to offer. The players just have to see it for themselves.

He explained: “We have our information about the players who can improve us and help us make the step up.

“It is not easy though. Players like Perotti, who was very good last season, have high expectations. They want to go to Inter or they want to go to AC Milan.

“They will wait until the last moment to achieve this possibility. If you are Watford you can offer London and the Premier League but they (the players) are still not sure.

“If the players come here for a couple of days though and see the project, the stadium and the training facilities then their mentality would change.

“However, it is difficult to get the players to come here for two days.”
